The Gibb River Road is a legendary 660km / 410mi dirt track right through the heart of the remote Kimberley region in north western Australia. Originally the road was created to transport cattle to and from the many stations along the way. During the wet season the route is closed due to flooding.
Calm Before The Storm was photographed at Manning Creek in the evening just before sunset. Manning Creek is one of the many beautiful lush waterways along the Gibb. On this particular night an especially torrential rain and thunderstorm broke loose. Storms that are regular in the wet season, but a little less so in the Dry, when this photograph was taken.
