Purnululu National Park, more widely known as the Bungle Bungles, is located in the remote Kimberley region of north western Australia. Purnululu is far away from everything, the closest major town is Kununurra, some 250km / 155mi by sealed road and 50km/30mi by 4WD track away.
The park owes it's fame to some most spectacular geological features in the Bungle Bungle Range. Curious orange and black striped sandstone domes create an otherworldy landscape. Apart from it's geological value, Purnululu is also of high cultural value. Many important spiritual sites of the traditional owners are found within the park's borders. Purnululu was listed as an UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2003.
