Death Valley is a desert in southwestern USA. It holds the records for both the point of lowest elevation in North America at 86m / 282ft below sea level and the highest recorded temperature of North America: 56.7°C / 134°F. In summer super heated air blows through the valley like a hot hair dryer. Nights bring little relief in the sense of temperature as it drops to 30°C / 86°F.
The extreme environment is the cause of many photographically very interesting and unique landscapes. The place is extremely barren, as can be expected in such environmental circumstances, and offers everything from salt pans to sand dunes and even wild flower displays after a rare period of rain.
Road to Extremes was photographed mid summer, in a soaring 52°C / 125°F in the shade.
