Melbourne Lights

Melbourne, Australia

Melbourne is the capital of the Australian state of Victoria and with a population of about 4 million it's the second largest city of the country. The city is positioned around the Yarra River and the natural bay of Port Philip. In the 19th century gold was discovered in Victoria and Melbourne became the major port for the region. Melbourne grew exponentially en the city became one of the world's wealthiest cities. These days Melbourne is regarded as one of the most livable cities of the world.

Melbourne Lights was photographed from the top of the Eureka Tower. In the foreground you can see the Yarra River and the rail tracks and Flinders Street Station. The tall buildings in the back are located in the Melbourne Central Business district. The Eureka Towers is a 297.3m / 975 ft. tall skyscraper in the Southbank precinct of Melbourne. It is Melbourne's tallest building and Australia's second tallest building. The Eureka Tower was finished in June 2006.
