The island of Klein Curaçao (Little Curaçao) is a small island of 1.7 sq km / 0.65 sq mi south east of Curaçao. The island has no permanent inhabitants, just some local fishermen occasionally spend the night on the island in huts. It's a windswept and featureless place, apart from a few imported coconut palms the island has very little vegetation. An old, rundown lighthouse is the only high structure. The windward side has been formed by the ever pounding waves rolling in from the Caribbean sea. Several ships have been washed ashore on this rough coast.
On the island's leeward side you'll find a picture-perfect, crystal clear turquoise sea with an endless white sand beach. Turquoise Storm was photographed on this beach just before a heavy tropical rain and thunderstorm. With Klein Curaçao being the featureless island it is, a thunderstorm feels especially threatening.
